The famous Indian chef from Kolkata, Munna Maharaj, was called to Paris, to prepare cuisines for the wedding guests.
2nd Most Expensive Wedding in History
The fat Indian wedding event continued for six days and the French government was also involved in the event. The marriage was the talk of the town for the entire Paris city.
At that time , $60 million (now Rs 428 crores according to now) was spent on this marriage.
It was, then, dubbed as the second most expensive wedding in history.
French Media Critized the wedding
The marriage also earned a huge criticism from the French. The local media described the wedding as ‘vulgar wedding in Versailles’.
The French people were not aware of the Mittal’s wealth and success in steel business. To them Mittal was an ‘Upstart’ i.e. an arrogant person who has earned a fast money.

Lakshmi Niwas is among the world’s top richest person born in India and residing in Britain. The ‘steel magnate’ is the chairman and CEO of the world’s largest steelmaker Arcelor Mittal.
He was born on June 15 ,1950 in a small village in Churu, Rajasthan.His family had moved to Kolkata from here. Then Mittal went to London.He was the third richest person in the world in Forbes’ 2005 list.He was the first Indian to make it to the top ten list.
