Bollywood or the Hindi film industry produces over three hundred films a year. Most of these are action or romantic films that star many big banner heroes and heroines. And while sport is the only other big thing in India, there are not many movies that have sports based themes. Out of the few that have been made, let us look at some of the best and most well made sport movies.
One of the first sports based films to come out of the Hindi film industry was the 1990, Dev Anand directed movie, Awwal Number. The film stared Aamir Khan and Aditya Pancholi in the lead roles, with Dev Anand himself essaying the role of DIG Vikram Singh. The movie had a stellar cast and was based on the game of cricket, where Aamir Khan and Aditya Pancholi played Indian cricketers.
The plot involves a lot of emotional upheavals, especially on the part of Pancholi, who is jealous of the new star in the team (Khan). The film did not do exceptionally well at the box office, in terms of collections, but will always be remembered for Aamir Khan’s performance in it.
