The temple is dedicated to goddess Kali and commonly known as "Shyama Temple".The temple has been built in the Darbhanga Raj era.

Very few people know that it used to be the crematorium ground of the Khandavala kings.All the temples inside the premises  bear  a name of khandavala king beside a common name like rudreswari kali,kameshwari kali and so on
such that statues of goddess are situated over the ashes of the kings

The temple organises "Nabaah" festival annually in the month of December to ward off the evil spirits and give the region prosperity and peace.

The temple has been also used historically as a place for match making discussion.
